"Mara Clara" Returns to Primetime TV Starting October 25, 2010

Starting this October 25, 2010, ABS-CBN is bringing back on primetime TV the mother of all Teleseryes "Mara Clara". "Mara Clara" became a household tag during the 90's and it is the longest running teleserye in the history of Philippine TV, now it will once again try to conquer the hearts of the Filipino viewers with fresh faces who will give life to the story of two girls who were raised in different world, the other lived a comfortable and abundant life and the other was raised in a poor family, both of them will soon discover that the life they lived should have been for the other and a diary holds the answer to their fate. Kathryn Bernardo will portray the new Mara which was originally portrayed by the Drama Queen Judy Ann Santos and Julia Montes will be the new Clara which was originally portrayed by Gladys Reyes.

Director Jerome Pobocan, the director of the top-rating teleserye "May Bukas Pa" shared what we should expect from the "Mara Clara" of this generation:

“Nandoon pa rin ang kurot ng Mara Clara. Kung paano kayo naantig noon sa kwento at mga eksena, nandoon pa rin yung ‘magic’ na yoon sa remake nito,”
"Mara Clara" ran for five years from August 17, 1992 up to  February 14, 1997 and paved the wasy for Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes to become the top caliber actress they are today. Now will this be the breakthrough project for the blossoming careers of Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes? I saw Kathryn Bernardo's potential in "Endless Love" when she portrayed the role of the young Marian Rivera and on "Magkaribal" as the young Gretchen Barretto, Julia Montes on the other hand, I don't know much about her and I haven't seen her on any teleserye but I'm gonna see how she does as the new Clara.

And another challenge for ABS-CBN is how are they gonna fit the entire five year run of the original "Mara Clara" into a lesser period of time, today is a lot different compared to the 90's, the show today airs for only three to six months, only few soaps was able to run for eight months or one year, that's "Marimar" and "May Bukas Pa" and it depends how it will perform in the ratings game. Another thing is the plot, televiewers of today's generation no longer likes to see the main character being beaten and slapped by the "kontrabida", how is ABS-CBN gonna respond to that? And please kindly remove that annoying scene the old "Mara Clara" where the real parents of Mara keeps looking for that diary which holds the key to the secret of the two girls, all of them got dizzy and miserable looking for that diary but it was just placed over the television set all along where they watch often, that scene is so ridiculous.
