Ogie Alcasid Leaves GMA Network After 18 Years
Last week, singer-song writer Ogie Alcasid formally bid farewell to the GMA Network bosses and his co-actors. After 18 years as a Kapuso, Ogie will explore new grounds in his new home TV 5 as the newest Kapatid. This will also mark Ogie's return to his original home network where he started as a mainstay of the gag show Tropang Trumpo.
Reports told that aside from being a TV 5 talent, Ogie Alcasid will also work for the network's music department which means that the singer-song writer will create theme songs for TV 5's shows. Sources also told that Ogie will host a new noontime show which will compete with GMA-7's Eat Bulaga! and ABS-CBN's It's Showtime!.
For 18 years Ogie Alcasid was a part of GMA-7's success. That was 1996 I think when GMA -7 had a reformat by introducing new shows and one of those were Bubble Gang and S.O.P. As a Kapuso, Ogie helped GMA-7 change the landscape of Philippine TV and provide competition to rival ABS-CBN.
But as the old saying goes, nothing lasts forever. Ogie Alcasid wanted to explore new heights and greener pastures and TV 5 gave him just the right opportunity.
Now as a showbiz observer, I think that Ogie's departure from the Kapuso Network will not create so much effect. Ogie wasn't doing much on GMA-7 during his last days. The GMA creatives keeps on pushing Bubble Gang to a later time slot and he was demoted as a judge in the Sunday noontime show Sunday All Stars giving Ogie a lesser exposure.
And besides, I'm also getting annoyed hearing him say "mabuhay ang OPM!" but whenever he says those words, he actually meant his career. Actually OPM is very much alive and kicking, the only thing dead is his career and song-writing style. And upon his departure from the Kapuso Network would mean he's gonna do his borinh stuffs and speeches on TV 5 which I do not mind not watching because of their low quality reception and programs.
