Right from the start of the 2008 PBA Fiesta Cup, Red Bull has been unstoppable. They've had a close fight against Coca Cola for the top spot, and the reason is because of the Automatic Semifinals spot that will be give to the top two teams. And it was almost seemed impossible for Red Bull to get to where they are right now because they lost some of their key players, and what's left are just some new comers and bench squads. But after a decisive 85-81 victory against Sta Lucia Realty, Red Bull ended up no. 2 in the classification round with an impressive 11-6 win-loss slate next to Air21 Express with a 12-6 record.
So the Red Bull Barako squad has a brighter look at the championship, they can take a long rest or practice different plays and player combinations as the await for their opponent for the Semifinal Round.
Actually you've gotta give credit for the entire Red Bull team, including their head coach Yeng Guiao. What they've showing is truly amazing. They are the team that traded most of their Key Players in the likes of Rico Villanueva, Lordy Tugade, Larry Fonacier and the last player they traded was Junthy Valenzuela and they did not took any replacement except two future draft picks and yet they finished no.2, and last year it wasn't bad for the team because they still managed to get to the semis round.
The reason for this could be because of their team work and resiliency, they might not have the best defense of the league but all players contributes, and they have a nice ball movement, they always look for the open man. And their key players Cyrus Baguio, Leo Najorda, Celino Cruz, Mick Penisi, Topex Robinson etc. are giving the team a quality playing time.
If other teams are trying to create a strong team by acquiring the best players and making their team star studded, Red Bull is not, they are strong because of team work. Other teams are have the strongest and biggest line-ups but are in the bottom of the team standings but Red Bull without star players are on top.
So Red Bull, keep it up and good luck!
