10 years ago, a meteor struck the Philippines and fell at a TV station called ABS-CBN located somewhere in Mother Ignacia Quezon City. And from that meteor came out four guys from Taiwan known as the Flower 4 of simply F4.
The Filipinos easily fell in love with this four fellas, they dominated the tv sets with their popular tv show from Taiwan, conquered the radio stations with their songs, people were like lunatics requesting their songs and singing to it eventhough they don't understand chinese.
The F4 became a phenomenon and spread like a wildfire all over Philippines causing the downfall of another TV station called GMA. With the televiewers hooked with F4, their rating fell and almost nobody had any idea that they still exists. GMA tried to even things by importing more TV shows from Taiwan but the Meteor fever was just too much. GMA kept lurking in the dark for several months until the new saviors of Philippines TV arrived.
14 young boys and girls from the Starstruck galaxy sparked the light of hope for GMA. They did not graced the televiewers instantly unlike F4 but slowly they started to get attention week after week, until we realized that these kids has just created a new phenomenon, a new era. An era not imported somewhere else, a new era in Philippine TV composed of stars made 100% from the Philippines.
The Starstruck members became household names, wherever they go, fans would rush to get even just a simple glimpse of them. They became so popular that the meteor fever was totally edged out causing ABS-CBN to launch their own quest for new stars The Starstruck members did't just dominated TV but they also hit the recording scene and movies.
The first batch of Starstruck was awesome, until the second batch came, third, fourth and fifth and year after year, it got worst. Until today, most of the graduates of each batch are now moms, some of the boys were turned into starlet hunks, some had a video scandal, some had passed away, while others were scattered in other TV stations. And these year marks the arrival of batch 6, and GMA is asking who will be the next big star and it's worth the wait.
But let me just ask, how many among the first batches became really big stars? Jennylyn Mercado is okay, but how about Mark Herras? upto now he couldn't move on from his bad boy of the dance floor image. Kris Bernal, after 7 years GMA still calls her the next big star but I think even if she lives a 100 years she will never be a big star. The ingrate Aljur Abrenica, who had the nerve to say bad things to the GMA management despite giving him the push although he is not deserving and he's got a really bad acting. Rocco Nacino? seriously?
Starstruck is no longer relevant, it's just an ordinary contest where there will be a winner at the end, but the promis of superstardom will neer be fulfilled. The hopefulls of these contest are just sellouts, they don't really have the fasion for artistry, they just want the money, the price and a chance for a 15 seconds of fame, something they can use to feed for their family, if that's what they want, better finish school, and get a good job.
And for GMA, stop corrupting the minds of thes kids by telling them that they will become a star. You'll just going to add them to the list of your unemployed stars, no projects and frozen.
