From N'SYNC to OUT'SYNC

Lance Bass, a former member of the boyband N'SYNC have admitted about his sexuality. Although the singer revealed his being homosexual in July 26,2006, it's still much talk about specially when he released his autobiography book entitled "OUT OF SYNC". It was co-written by New York Times biographer Marc Eliot. The 208-page book talks about his life during childhood until he decided to finally "come out", and the book was a best seller.

Right now Bass is currently having a relationship with Amazing Race star Reichen Lehmkuhl.

A quick look back to Lance Bass carrier before he came out, Bass was a member of N'SYNC, one of the most successfull boybands formed in the 90's. The group holds the record of the fastest selling album for NO Strings Attached which sold 2.4 million in it's first week of release, and their follow-up album Celebrity sold 1.88 million in it's first week. Bass also starred in the movie On The Line along with his N'SYNC bandmate Joey Fatone.

According to fans he's coming out does not affect them. In fact a lot of fans contributed their supports and believes theres nothig wrong in what he did, he just admitted the truth.
And for me as an N'SYNC fan it's ok, Lance Bass revelation of his true sexuality is not a new issue, if you remember Stephen Gately of BOYZONE and Mark Feehily of WESTLIFE also admitted that they are gay.
It seems that all boybands have their own gay member, who do you think will come out next?

A tribute to Backstreet Boys

The Backstreet Boys, "The biggest selling boyband of all time". The group was originally formed in Orlando Florida with members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Alexander James Mclean, Brian Litrell, And Kevin Richardson. The band started in 1993 but only made it big in 1997 during the peak of pop genre with the likes of the Spice Girls and Hanson.

The group was first known in U.K and Canada when they released their self-titled debut album "Backstreet Boys", the album featured the hit songs "Get down", "I'll never break your heart", "We've got it going on" and Quit playing games with my heart which launch them to superstardom in the U.S. music scene.

In 1997 they released their second album "Backstreet Back" featuring the songs "As long as you love me, "Everybody", and "All I have to give". The album sold 28 million copies worldwide, and went # 1 on the charts around the world.

In 1999 upto 2000, the Backstreet Boys released their Most phenomenal album "Millennium". This was their comeback album after they took a break in 1998. The album was certified 11 times platinum and sold 40 million copies worldwide. The album contains the tracks "I want it that way", "Larger than life", and "Show me the meaning of being lonely. These album also earned them Grammy nominations and some awards.

In 2000, the group released a new album called "Black and Blue" which also sold over 20 million copies worlwide. It featured the carrier hit single "Shape of my heart", and follow-up singles "The Call", and "More than that".

In 2001 they releasd a greatest hits album "Capter one" containing all their significant tracks and a new song "Drowning".

After a break on 2002-2004 the group came back with a new album "Never gone", in 2005featuring the song "Incomplete", but this song earned critism due to a change in the band's style. Other songs from this album are "Just want you to know", "I still" and "Crawling back to you".
Just this year 2007, the Backstreet Boys released thei sixth album "Unbreakable", but this time without Kevin Richardson who decided to leave the group to try other opportunities. The album featured the song "Inconsolable".

This time the group is not phenomenal as they were before. The low sale performance of their previous two albums shows it all. Probably this is due to their change in style and in their music influence. We no longer see them groove, like how they do before. And people doesnt appreciate their songs anymore. But for me Backstreet Boys is still Backstreet Boys. I'm a big fan of the group and I'll continue to listen to their music.
And just like one of their song says "As long as their'll be music we'll be coming back again", their back doing what they love and continuing their passion for music.

Here are few songs from the Backstreet Boys:

Would Marimar stay number 1?

Marimar is today's highest rating primetime program in the country. Our pinoy version of the well loved series which was first played by Latin superstar Thalia even surpassed the ratings of the original version. I'm a certified Marimar fanatic, every night I stay up late just to watch the show and I anticipate every heart pounding seen.

But recently I'm not too impressed with the latest development in the show. This past week, Marimar found out that she has a step sister, and guess who? her mortal enemy Angelica. This atory line is very far different from the original version.

I was never able to watch the original Marimar but thru some research I discovered many difference in the story, at first it's just ok cause I understand GMA's effort to make the show beautiful. But that was too much. I heard some viewers complaining and they said that they don't like to watch it anymore cause GMA mocked Marimar. And just recently, I heard that Marimar is extended upto march. So it makes me think what would the staff do just to prolonged the series? Will they change the entire story just to make the series run longer?

I'm not quashing the show, I'm just concerned about the outcome of the latest developments. I love the series so I want it to stay on top until the end. So I'm calling the attention of the GMA creative crew, please improve the story, so that the show will maintain it's current status a number 1.

The Network War

The "Network War" in the philippines has been a part of our pop culture, this is the clash between two of the top television networks in the country today, ABS-CBN and GMA. Both networks are competing in programs, gimmicks and most importanly the ratings. Both of them are claiming they are Number 1. The clash between this networks had reached another level when GMA had recently filed a "libel sue" against ABS-CBN after accusing GMA responsible in manipulating the tv rating of AGB-Nielsen.

I compare the clash of this giant networks to the legendary "Monday Night War" in the U.S television. This Monday night war refers to the battle of professional wrestling shows, the World Wrestling Federation(WWF) and World Championship Wrestlin(WCW) during 1995 until 2001.

I found some similarities of the "Monday Night War" in U.S and the "Network War in the Philippines, and here are those:

Battle for television ratings

Just like the monday night war, GMA and ABS-CBN has been battling for ratings. Both networks never stopped working for new programs and gimmicks to win the viewership of the audience. From morning shows, talk shows, noontime shows, game shows, drama shows and news programs, they compete with each other. In monday night war, both wrestling shows features pay-per-views with similar programs, the "royal rumble" & "wrestle mania" in WWF versus the "world war III" & "starcade " in WCW.

Aquisitions of Stars

"Over the Bakod" is the term that pertains to the moving of artists from GMA to ABS-CBN and vice versa. We've seen stars moving from channel to channel just like Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, Toni Gonzaga, Valerie Conception, Jake Cuenca, Anne Curtis and just recently Angel Locsin moved from GMA to ABS. While Dennis Trillo, Butch Francisco, Pia Guanio, Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez came from ABS but now more identified in GMA.

In the monday night war big stars like Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarett moved fro WWF to WCW, while WCW guys like Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, transferred to WWF.

Word wars

Stars from GMA and ABS-CBN often exchange harsh words to each other, about ratings, controversies, and many more. Just recently Joey de Leon and Willie Revillame were involved in a fued regarding a game show scam. They were condemned by the MTRCB after talking trash on air. In WCW NITRO I remember announcer Howard Frinkle said "the WWF has sabotage my microphone" that was due to a technical difficulty that occured during the broadcast.

Unfortunately for WCW, the Monday Night War ended after it was sold to WWE owner Vince McMahon. As for GMA and ABS, how will their war end? will GMA buy ABS or vice versa?

BUT for me, I think this war will last a very long time.
