The Metro Manila Film Festival 2010 Winners

The Metro Manila Film Festival Awards night was held last night, and It was filled with a lot of surprises and uncanny twists. "Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na 'To" won the Best Picture Award for this year, while "Rosario" which was expected to sweep all the major awards just settled as the Second Best Picture. And the biggest upset, the 3D animation film "RPG Metanoia" won Third Best Picture, how was that?

After the Metro Manila Development Authority which is in-charge with the Metro Manila Film Festival changed leadership and introduced some new rules in judging the entries, many have thought that we can expect a clean and honest result, but after last night, expect to hear a lot from those entries which lost.

I think that "Rosario" deserves to win Best Picture, because it's a great film and showcases a lot about the Filipino cultures and history and it's director Albert Martinez should have won the award for Best Director. "Ang Tanging Ina Mo" is a nice movie too, it features a lot of family values but I think this is a recycled movie, everytime Star Cinema could not produce an entry for the MMFF, they will use "Ang Tanging Ina Mo" as a last minute entry just to make everyone see that they are joining. And Wenn Deramas as Best Director, hmmm, he is indeed a good director, he is behind some of the top grossing comedy films in the country but I think his antics are recycled too, he uses the same punchlines on all his movies and some people might be tired of seeing those antics over and over again.

And the other upset is "RPG Metanoia" winning the Third Best Picture, this is the first full length 3D film made by the Filipinos and something we should be proud of, but I don't think that's enough to consider it as Best Picture, to become a Best Picture a film should have quality acting from it's actors, it should have a great production design and a quality story, a story that people are gonna remember for a very long time. But "RPG Metanoia" is just an animated film, it's made for commercial purposes and it's just after the income, it was just made to promote online gaming, there are no real actors on it since it's an animated film and the story is very shallow.

But they are the jurors anyway, it's up to them who should win, if they think that the winners are deserving what can we do? Here is the full list of winners of the MMFF 2010:

  1. I agree that Rosario should win as Best Picture, and Jennelyn Mercado should have been Best Actress. Really suspicious that she's not even in the list of nominees. Very suspicious. And I thought we are done with vote buying and filmfest scams....

  2. "But "RPG Metanoia" is just an animated film"

this statement is an insult to animators.. takes a lot of world class artistry to make just a single frame of that "just an animated film"

  3. Anonymous 2, ignore the ignorance. the reviewer is a typical know it all who from the looks of it wasn't decent enough to see the film.

RPG Metanoia! the real best picture! never has these other films received such praise and raves. it just wasn't given the chance because of the narrow mindedness of most.
