Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera lent her star power to the House of Representatives’ observance of Women’s Month by gracing the celebration of Women with Disabilities Day Monday.

Marian, the House’s Ambassador for Women and Children with Disabilities, was the guest of honor for the day-long forum and training session for women with disabilities sponsored by the House committee on women and gender equality. The event had the theme “Juanang Maykapansanan, Kapasyahan Mo ay Mahalaga sa Bayan.”

The actress had graced a similar event organized by the House last year.

At the forum, Carmona town Mayor Dahlia Loyola discussed the program she had launched in the town to help women with disabilities work with their families to become functional, employable, and highly independent individuals.

She expressed optimism that the program will be a best practice that other local government units can emulate in helping women with disabilities earn a living.

Earlier in the day, Gabriela Women's Party Rep. Emmi De Jesus led hundreds of medical staff and patients in marking the global anti-violence campaign One Billion Rising at the Philippine Children's Medical Center in Quezon City with a community dance that celebrated the victory of the cancer treatment center over attempts to sell it to property developers.

March was declared as Women’s Role in History Month in the country through Proclamation No. 227 in 1988, while March 8 was proclaimed as National Women’s Day with the enactment of Republic Act 6949 in 1990. —Xianne Arcangel/JST, GMA News
